Apple iPhone 12 Screen Repair Cost Increases Significantly over iPhone 11

Apple

Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 last week, and one of the showcase features is its new Ceramic Shield glass screen. This new technology promises to deliver four times the shatter resistance of existing screens, but this extra protection doesn’t mean you still can’t break the screen. If you do happen to shatter your display, be prepared to shell out some cash as a new screen will set you back about $300.

Shortly after the iPhone 12 announcement, Apple updated its repairs page with new information on the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro. The $279 price tag is expensive, but it’s the same amount Apple is charging for last year’s iPhone 11 Pro.

However, the iPhone 12 may have a high price tag compared to the iPhone 11, which could be repaired for $199 versus $279 for the iPhone 12.

This $80 bump in price is due to the OLED display, which has been included in all four iPhone 12 models this year.

Last year, the OLED was reserved for just the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Not surprisingly, the prices for other damages also have increased, with the iPhone 12 Pro coming in the highest with a $549 price tag for an out of warranty replacement. The iPhone 12 is slightly less expensive, with an out of warranty repair cost of $449.

Apple has yet to announce the repair pricing for the iPhone 12 Max or the iPhone 12 mini because these two phones are not yet available. They both will go on sale in November, with pre-orders starting November 6.

The iPhone 12 mini is an entry-level phone with a starting price tag of $699. The iPhone 12 is second in line with a $799 MSRP. The two Pro models are the most expensive models with a retail price of  $999 for the iPhone 12 Pro and $1,099 for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
