Across the United States, people are seeing spikes COVID-19 infection cases. This is occurring in states such as California, Florida, Arizona, Texas, and more. While many were hoping to see their states flourishing after the lengthy lockdown, the results are mixed. Now Apple Stores will be joining many others in closing.
Apple announced that it will be closing stores in a number of states, starting on July 2nd. This will include stores in Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, Lousiana, Nevada, and Oklahoma: 30 in total.
Those 30 stores will add to the 77 already closed due to the virus, bringing the total of closed Apple Stores in the U.S. to 107, or around a quarter of Apple Stores in the United States.
This is particularly relevant for local, since Apple Stores were some of the first retail stores to close prior to any state or national pushes for quarantine, and are often a sort of “canary-in-a-mineshaft” for how certain communities will respond to local infection rates.
An Apple spokesman said in a statement: “Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible.”
