iPhone 12 to Launch October 13th

According to well-known Apple leaker Jon Prosser, Apple will announce the highly-anticipated iPhone 12 on October 13th.

This date lines up with an earlier rumor by AppleInsider, whose source also pegged October 13th as the date Apple will announce the iPhone 12.

According to Prosser, Apple will announce the iPhone 12 during its October 13th event. The company will start taking pre-orders on the 16th, with in-store sales beginning on October 23rd.

These on-sale dates supposedly only apply to the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 Max. The Pro models are expected to be unveiled at the event, but likely won’t launch until sometime in November.

The Pro models may be delayed due to the inclusion of LiDAR as well as more complex part sourcing and manufacturing.

The strategy of announcing one month and releasing the next month is not unheard of. Apple staggered the iPhone’s release back in 2017 when it started selling the iPhone 8 in September and the iPhone X a month later. It happened again in 2018 when Apple released the XR shortly after the iPhone XS.

Apple is expected to release four iPhone models this fall, starting with the 5.4-inch iPhone mini. This phone may feature an iPhone 4-inspired design with a dual-lens camera, OLED display, 5G connectivity, and an A14 Bionic chipset.

Apple also is working on the iPhone 12 Max, which will be similar in specs to the iPhone mini, but will have a 6.1-inch display.

As it has done in the past, Apple is said to be prepping two Pro models — a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. The Pro models may add a LiDAR scanner and triple-lens camera on top of the A14 chipset, OLED display, and 5G.
