You Can Finally Listen to Apple Podcasts on Your Amazon Echo (Here’s How)

Amazon Echo owners can now listen to any of the roughly 800,000 shows on Apple Podcasts on their Alexa-enabled devices.

Apple has partnered with the retail giant to begin offering Apple Podcasts support on Echo devices starting today. And while you can use it on your own Echo devices now, it takes a few steps to get it working.

How to Listen to Apple Podcasts on Your Echo

1. To get Podcast support, just open the Alexa app on your device.
2. Head to Settings.
3. Music and Podcasts.
4. Link New Service.
5. From here, Apple Podcasts should be an option in the Link Service menu.
6. Just connect Alexa with your Apple ID and you should be good to go.

The integration supports the usual set of voice commands, including playing specific shows and skipping audio.

Alexa also syncs playback progress with all of your Apple devices. That means if you start a podcast on your iPhone, you should be able to resume it where you left off on your Echo.

You can also set Apple Podcasts as the default podcast platform on your Alexa account. That means that you won’t have to say “play (podcast name) from Apple Podcasts” every time you want to listen to a show.

To do that, just open the Alexa app and navigate to Settings > Music and Podcasts > Default Services.

Interestingly, the partnership with Amazon makes the Seattle-based company the first third party to offer Apple Podcasts service. Previously, HomePod was the only smart speaker to be compatible with Podcasts. But, as we’ve seen in the past couple of years, Apple is opening up its walled garden a bit when it comes to its services sector.

Earlier this year, Apple overhauled its Podcasts web client to make it easier to discover and listen to shows in a browser. The company is also rumored to be planning a push into premium podcast content, possibly as an original subscription service.

Apple Podcasts support for Alexa is currently rolling out in the U.S. today. The Echo maker hasn’t offered any details on an international rollout, however.

Interestingly, Spotify also announced today that its podcast service is starting to roll out on Amazon Echo devices.
