Facebook Messenger Will Release the New Feature We’ve All Been Waiting for

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could turn back “the arrows of time,” and “unsend” those drunken, unhinged or otherwise undesired text messages we fired out in the heat of the moment?

Indeed, it would – and that’s why some of the most popular messaging platforms in use today (i.e., WhatsApp) have recently introduced the ability to “unsend” any message dispatched via its mobile chat application for up to one hour after the message had sent.

The “unsend” feature allocates the sender a fair amount of time to reconsider their sent message and provides the ability to retract the message for both the sender and receiver.

Facebook Messenger Confirms the Feature

Facebook, who owns WhatsApp, plans to implement the “unsend” feature into the company’s Messenger app. The social media giant this morning all but confirmed the ability to delete sent messages is “coming soon.”

“If you accidentally send the wrong photo, incorrect information or message the wrong thread, you can easily correct it by removing the message,” reads an excerpt from the release notes of Facebook’s latest 191.0 software update for iOS.

“Users would be given just 10 minutes to jump in and delete their most recently sent message.”

The social media-giant further confirmed users would be given just 10 minutes to jump in and delete their most recently sent message before the option to do so disappears indefinitely.

Currently, the Messenger app allows senders to delete sent messages, but deleted messages will still be available to the users on the receiving end.

The much-anticipated “unsend” feature appears to be imminent for Facebook Messenger users. We’ll be interested to see how users react to the tiny 10-minute window of remorse.
