Amazon is removing a Christmas-themed Kindle app after it reportedly gave children who used it death threats.

News of the shocking app first spread when English mom Kersey Elizabeth Taylor posted a now-viral video depicting the threatening message. As of the writing of this article, the video has been shared 8,399 times.

The app, titled “Call Santa Claus New 2018,” appears to be a relatively innocuous Kindle application which ostensibly allows children to participate in a “phone call” with Santa Claus.

While that’s a cheery premise, the app is much darker than it appears. As Taylor’s video shows, the app’s phone call with Santa Claus actually goes something like this.

“Hello, there. Can you hear me?” the not-Santa caller says while Christmas music plays. “In five nights, if you’re free, I will look for you. And I will find you, and I will kill you.”

Taylor told news outlets that the Kindle tablet belongs to her 12-year-old son, but it was actually her three-year-old daughter, Evie-Elizabeth, that first discovered the horrifying message. According to Kid’s Spot, the three-year-old was brought to tears by the sinister phone call.

“What sort of a sick and twisted person would make an app made for children to call Santa in to this,” Taylor said in her Facebook post, before indicating that she had reported the app to Amazon.

That report was corroborated by at least one review on Amazon’s UK website. Interestingly, the review is dated for October 2017 — which indicates that the app has managed to stay on the storefront for at least a year.

“Voice sounds like someone who smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day and then they threatened to come and kill you,” Amazon user smylescheduler wrote in the review. “Really not so nice especially when you think it’s for children.”

The app’s developer is apparently listed as Glance Dev, who currently has two other apps on the Kindle app store: “Guide for Fishdom” and “Call From Diego the Puppet.”

Amazon told news outlets that the app has since been removed from its storefront for violating its policies. In addition, the tech juggernaut said it will contact the developer and launch an investigation into the matter.
