Apple’s newly launched iOS 12 operating system may be seeing a slower adoption rate than past updates to the mobile platform.

Just about 48 hours after iOS 12 launched, only about 10 percent of devices have it installed, according to data collected by analytics firm Mixpanel. Comparatively, iOS 11 reached that milestone after about 24 hours. iOS 10 was installed on 14.45 percent of devices in just 24 hours.

There’s no clear indication why this is the case, but it’s worth noting that iOS 11 was a fairly buggy release.

Because of the frequency and prevalence of significant bugs in the early releases of iOS 11, iPhone and iPad users may be wary of rushing out to download a new software update.

If that’s the case, it’s a bit of an ironic turn of events. With iOS 12, Apple has placed its focus on under-the-hood stability and performance improvements.

In other words, Apple has made sure that the iOS 12 release isn’t marred by the same amount of bugs as iOS 11. As of the writing of this article, no major bugs or problems have been found in the new software.

Similarly, across the board, users should notice snappier performance, smoother animations, and better response times. Apps will launch much more quickly, even when the device is under heavy load.

In addition to the performance improvements, iOS 12 also adds a slew of new features like customizable Memoji, significant upgrades to Siri, and new digital health tools.

There are also long-awaited features like grouped notifications. Which makes it all the more curious that more people aren’t installing the update.

iOS 12 should be available to all iOS users as a free over-the-air update. You can find it by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Of course, it’s still worth noting that 10 percent adoption in 48 hours is still an incredible achievement when compared to Apple’s competitors. Back in July, only about 12 percent of Android devices were running the latest version of that software.
