4 Liquid Retina Display
In a bid to keep building costs down, most reports had confirmed and corroborated that Apple’s 6.1-inch iPhone would employ LCD technology in lieu of the more premium OLED displays on the iPhone XS and XS Max. While it was also rumored that Apple’s choice of LCD technology would be a new and highly-advanced form of liquid crystal tech dubbed MLCD+, the company surprised us again by announcing the first-of-its-kind Liquid Retina display (LRD) as an iPhone XR exclusive.
According to Apple, LRD is essentially an updated version of LCD technology which appears, ostensibly, to more closely emulate the stunning color reproduction of Apple’s Super Retina OLED panels. It also adds True Tone support and a 120Hz refresh-rate, while providing a contrast ratio of 1,400:1 compared to the iPhone X and Xs’ 1,000,000:1.
