Apple typically holds their release events on Tuesdays. Like many others, we expect the event to be hosted on Wednesday, the 9th this year (due to the Labor Day holiday falling on Monday, the 7th).

Although the event will surely be focused around the release of the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus, Apple may have plans to introduce several more new products, as well. Let’s take a look at them.

Apple’s latest version of the iPhone is expected to follow in the usual tradition of iPhone releases – a major upgrade to the phone (iPhone 6 and 6 Plus), and release an incremental upgrade the following year (iPhone 6S and 6S Plus). Based on leaked photos and schematics, the 6S series will look almost identical to last year’s handsets. However, the phone will see some impressive new hardware changes. The inclusion of Force Touch technology in the display is at the center of the upgrades, but the phone will likely see an improved camera, faster processor, increased RAM, and a much faster wireless chip as well.

Apple TV081015-SEPTEMBER9EVENT-2

The Apple TV is certainly due for an upgrade, and many were expecting the upgrade to come this past June at WWDC. Apple, however, scrapped plans to release the new device just before the event was held, with sources saying the device simply was “not ready for prime time”. However, it looks like we may see the new device on the September 9th event, complete with an upgraded processor, more memory, and a new remote as well as support for third-party apps. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Apple’s highly-anticipated streaming service will be launched with the new device – most sources say that we’ll have to wait until 2016 for that.

Several New iPadsipad-air-2-gold

Although Apple traditionally releases their new iPads in October, the company is reportedly looking to launch several new iPads during the September event, as well. A new iPad Air 3 will reportedly boast upgraded internals, as will a new iPad Mini 4. However, according to Paczkowski, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro “seems to be a wildcard” for the event. The iPad Pro may end up being a 2016 release, as well.

New Operating Systems081015-SEPTEMBER9EVENT-3

Apple is also expected to release new operation systems for their lineup at the September event. The official release of iOS 9 will see improvements to several apps (including transit directions in the Maps app), smarter and deeper-reaching search tools, and a brand new, impressively upgraded Siri. The Mac line will see the official release of OS X El Capitan, as well. The new operating system focuses on “under-the-hood” improvements, but comes with several new features, too – most notably, Split View, which allows two applications to run side by side on your screen, enhanced Spotlight Search, Mail, and Notes apps, and much more.

4k iMac?051915-NEWMACBOOKANDIMAC-3

The latest developer release of OS X El Capitan contains code that suggests several new Apple products, one of which is a 4K version of the 21.5-inch iMac. According to 9to5Mac, code in the new beta “references Mac support for a new 4096 x 2304 resolution Apple-made display panel.” The code also references a new Intel graphics chipset, as well as new AMD Radeon processors. While a release of a new 4K iMac may be likely in the future, it probably won’t be launched as soon as September 9th. We can still hold out hope, though, can’t we?
