Apple’s super hot, wrist-hugging wearable, the Apple Watch, was originally unveiled to much fanfare at a special media event back on March 9th, 2015 — while the device, itself, hit store shelves roughly a month and a half later on April 24th.

Well, that was over a year ago.. And if history has taught us anything, it’s that the Cupertino-company already has 2nd generation Apple Watch well in the works — and perhaps even two of them — and that they should be coming to us very, very soon.

Among other notable changes, such as the inclusion of new sensors for GPS tracking, a barometer, and a slew of new health monitoring sensors, Apple’s 2nd generation wearable is also expected to feature a slightly thinner chassis, and perhaps a few other improvements like a faster processor, new bands, etc.

However, with the inclusion of such advanced, battery-draining technologies as those mentioned above, maybe it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that we’re now hearing about a higher-capacity battery potentially being stuffed into the forthcoming wearable device.

That is, of course, if this leaked image is indeed authentic..

Coming to us this morning courtesy of the popular Chinese blogging site, Weibo, the image purportedly shows off a beefier 334 mAh battery — which, according to the Weibo post, is destined for the 42mm variant of Apple’s wearable. In comparison, the company’s current-generation Watch boasts a 246 mAh battery.

So while the extra 88 mAh might not seem like that big of a deal to most users, it should be enough, at the very least, to cover the extra amount of juice needed to power all those features.

Of course, don’t get too warm and cozy just yet, folks, because the authenticity of this photo cannot be confirmed. However, given the anticipated enhancements slated for the ‘Apple Watch 2’, it’s only reasonable to assume — not to mention, previously rumored — that Apple would up the ante in the battery department to some extent this time around, especially considering how the battery is one of many Apple Watch users’ biggest complaints about the device.

Prominent, well-connected KGI Securities analyst, Ming Chi Kuo, has also gone on record suggesting that Apple could be unveiling two ‘Apple Watch 2’ variants this year — one boasting the upgraded features, such as the barometer and GPS chips and one that’s much akin to the original Apple Watch, except for some minor design tweaks, better waterproofing, and faster, next-generation CPUs.

It’s been speculated that Cupertino could be unveiling the ‘Apple Watch 2’ alongside the ‘iPhone 7’ on Wednesday September 7th, however other rumors have suggested that a separate Apple event, possibly being held during the month of October, is also plausible.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but the good news is that ‘Apple Watch 2’ is almost certainly looming not too far off the imminent horizon.

Are you going to pick up an ‘Apple Watch 2’ this year? Let us know in the comments!
