Apple has reportedly sent out invitations to members of the press for a September 7 event that the company has planned. The news came from tech website BGR, who added that the invitations did not confirm what exactly would be revealed at the event.

It’s worth noting, however, that the original story on BGR.com has been taken down — and most news sites that have reported this event just link to that initial post. That doesn’t mean, however, that the rumor is false — BGR could just be hitting technical difficulties.

In any case, if the rumors are true, it’s likely that Apple’s September 7 event will see the hotly anticipated iPhone 7 take center stage. It’s also likely that iOS 10 will be mentioned — and may even get a solid release date.

Apple’s upcoming phone has a slew of new changes, including a lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack — the exclusion of which has stirred up a lot of controversy.

Other rumored features include a better camera, with a dual-lens system being included on the larger of the iPhone models; and better water resistance, as well as nixing the traditional home button, instead using a nonmoving fingerprint scanner.

It’s also likely all models of the iPhone 7 will start at 32-gigabytes, in order to compete with the plethora of Android phones that ship with 32GB of storage by default.

The iPhone 7 is slated to be a device that bridges the gap between current model iPhones, and a dramatically redesigned 2017 flagship that many sources say Apple has in the works.

In any case, Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 7 sometime next month — and a September 7 reveal is certainly possible. Cupertino’s latest flagship should hit shelves a few weeks after that.
