Amazon may not sell cars just yet, but it may be preparing to. Amazon has launched Amazon Vehicles, an online community and forum for researching and discussing automobiles and car components.

Amazon Vehicles essentially functions as a large forum and comprehensive database of cars of varying years and make, which you can peruse according to an array of search parameters including body type, MPG, and features. Through it, prospective car buyers can view videos, specifications, reviews, and images of thousands of automobile models and parts. The pages also list manufacturers’ prices, though they don’t direct you to a means of purchasing a vehicle.

Some Amazon observers have commented that the forum may be intended to condition consumers to consider the e-retailer first and even shop on Amazon, even if it isn’t for a car. For instance, Amazon currently has millions of car parts available for sale on Amazon Automotive.

According to CNET, Adam Goetsch, director of Amazon Automotive, said that Amazon Vehicles is meant to “support customers during one of the most important, research-intensive purchases in their lives by helping them make informed decisions.”

Beyond this, Amazon, which has a Top Gear-spinoff TV show, titled The Grand Tour, in the works, hopes to foster and develop into a community of car enthusiasts where people discuss burning automotive questions and news.
