This Little Device Finally Lets You Connect a Wireless PS4 Controller to Your Mac

Sony is bringing out a new accessory that should make it easier to play games on both Windows PCs and Macs.

The Japanese-based tech giant announced that it will be releasing what it calls a DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adapter, according to a company blog post.

This little accessory, which looks like a small USB thumb drive, will allow Mac users to wirelessly connect a DualShock 4 controller to any Mac-based computer. And it might be essential for Mac gamers. According to one commenter, Macs currently don’t support the specific Bluetooth protocol needed for a DualShock 4 controller to work. That’s where the adapter comes in.

The USB Wireless Adapter should give Mac users all the benefits of using a gaming controller — buttons, analog sticks, motion sensors, and vibration — as long as the game they’re trying to play supports these features.

And while Macs are not the first platform people think of when they hear “gaming computer,” there are still a wealth of titles for Mac computers — and many of them will work flawlessly with a DualShock 4 controller.

These games include both Borderlands 2 and Batman Arkham: Asylum, both available for download through the popular site Steam.

In addition to the wireless adapter, Sony also announced that it’s bringing it video game streaming service, PlayStation Now, to the Windows PC. For $20 a month, users can stream from a library of over 400 PS3 games — and it’s possible that the wealth of titles could be coming to Macs.

The company announced that it’s exploring bringing PlayStation Now compatibility to Mac computers — but noted that it didn’t have any official comment as of right now.

The DualShock 4 Wireless Adapter should be available for sale sometime in September. It’ll retail for $24.99 when it launches.
