Given that the iPhone 7 will not feature a dramatic overhaul in dimensions or design over the iPhone 6s, as expected, it’s highly likely that Apple will be saving the major revisions for its 10th generation iPhone in 2017.

We currently don’t know much about that device, however, if another new rumor we’ve caught wind of this morning pans out to be accurate, than the Cupertino-company’s ‘iPhone 7s’ for 2017 will feature the most extensive design and materials overhaul to date — including, according to the rumor, an all-new glass unibody shell housing, in place of the iPhone 6s’s series 7000 aluminum.

That’s right, folks! According to Allen Horng, Chief Executive of the longtime iPhone chassis supplier Catcher Technology, Apple would indeed be switching the 2017 iPhone’s chassis to an all-glass design — and thus, ditching Catcher’s most advanced, series 7000 aluminum.

“As far as I know, only one iPhone will adopt glass casing next year,” Horng stated to the Nikkei Asian Review in the wake of Catcher’s annual shareholders meeting.

It should be interesting to see how the 2017 ‘iPhone 7s’ will turn out — especially since this wouldn’t be the first time Apple has brought to the market an all-glass iPhone. Aside from its thin metal support frame, the Silicon Valley tech-giant’s iPhone 4 and 4s — which launched back in 2010 and 2011, respectively — both featured a glass front and back panel.

As far as Horng’s concerns about Apple’s switch to glass on his company’s bottom line — well, he didn’t really seem to have any..

“I don’t think this move will have an impact on Catcher’s revenue as glass casing still needs a durable metal frame which requires advanced processing technology and would not be cheaper than the current model.”
