Granted, we’ve seen our fair share of iPhone-related robberies and questionable transactions over the years, this one we’re hearing about today, in particular, likely takes the cake in terms of both brazenness, bloodiness, and, well, perhaps a bit of uneasiness, too — at least in regards to how far people are willing to go in order to get their hands on one of Apple’s iPhones.

According to police reports from the Brooklyn precinct of the New York Police Department, a 33-year-old man — who was minding his own business, while casually riding the subway N train to his destination — was stabbed in the stomach by a suspect, who then snatched the victim’s iPhone handset out of his hands, and fled off like a coward into the broad daylight.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene of the bloody mess at around 11:45 am Friday morning — shortly after the N train pulled into the busy Atlantic Avenue-Barclay’s Center Stadium station, and immediately rushed the victim to the nearest hospital for non-life threatening stab wounds.

Several other passengers and eye-witnesses reported that the culprit had been pacing the train, back-and-forth, for several minutes prior to the attack — which prompted many of them to pocket their own devices, primarily in light of the sheer sketchiness of the situation. Unfortunately, the attacker was ultimately able to get away before police arrived at the scene. However, an ongoing effort to track down a man who, as eyewitnesses reported, “has a neck tattoo and jacket with lettering on it,” is currently underway. Okay, that’s great, but, come on — that could be pretty much anybody, right?

I suppose that all we can really do now is just hope that police ultimately find Mr. Lettered-jacket tattoo man, so justice can be served where justice is due, right?

It’s honestly surprising to see how far people will go to steal electronic devices. Of course, this incident would by no means be the first time we’ve heard about sketchy situations like this; however, as we mentioned, this one in particular is perhaps the most bizarre — and, not to mention, unsettling — that we’ve seen in recent years.

Apple has implemented a plethora of hardware and software features that have specifically attempted to make the iPhone a bit more unappealing to potential thieves. For example, we can now protect our iPhones with Touch ID, or a 6-digit passcode, which would deter most users from thinking that they’ll get away with something they can use — or, in the event they can’t, even flip around for cash on the open market. But, unfortunately, some people are just too desperate for words — and we all know that desperate people do desperate things, right?

What are your thoughts about this robbery? Do you protect your iPhone using any of Apple’s security measures built-into iOS? Let us know in the comments!
