According to the historically reliable rumor mill source, Nowhereelse, a slew of new images have surfaced showing an alleged ‘iPhone 7’ casing that features a quad-speaker set up — similar to that employed by the Cupertino-company’s iPad Pro line. And, when we say ‘iPhone 7’, we’re not just talking about the larger, 5.5-inch model — but also, surprisingly enough, the 4.7-inch variant, as well.

As you can see from the images below, this alleged ‘iPhone 7’ case appears to feature a total of four speaker cut-outs — two of which are positioned on the top and bottom of the handset, respectively. Additionally, adding fuel to the fire of previous rumors, there appears to be no cut out for the standard 3.5mm headset jack — which supports earlier reports that Apple has ditched the industry standard, perhaps in favor of wireless or Lightning-based audio.

Why exactly the ‘iPhone 7’ — and, not to mention, the smallest one coming to market — would feature a total of four speakers is beyond us. I mean, given the handset’s smaller housing, such a move would likely just pave the way to a really, really loud iPhone — if Apple could somehow, someway even squeeze a total of four speakers in there to begin with, which is a feat that remains to be seen.

Interestingly enough, although in support of previous rumors, too, the leaked photos appear to depict a lone, single-lens camera module. It was originally reported that Apple’s smaller, 4.7-inch ‘iPhone 7’ would feature just one lens, while the larger, 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 7 Plus’ handset would boast a powerful, dual-lens camera.

Regardless of what the device ultimately features, or does not feature, it appears that Apple has hedged it’s bets on the grounds that customers are, in fact, very, very excited for the forthcoming flagships. According to the well-informed Taiwanese Economic Daily News, Apple has placed orders with it’s suppliers for a total of 72-78 million handsets to be ready by launch — which is expected at an unknown time later on this Fall.

That staggering number, according to the Economic Daily’s report, would make it the highest launch order from the Silicon Valley iPhone-maker within the last two-years time — even surpassing the company’s record, 2014 release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which sold in excess of 75 million units within the fiscal quarter it was launched.

The report goes on to confirm rumors about the iPhone 7’s production that we recently reported on — in that, Foxconn’s Han Hai Precision technology, as well as Pegatron, will be solely responsible for manufacturing both the 4.7- and 5.5-inch variants of the iPhone 7. These manufacturers have also reportedly started hiring additional workers ahead of the advent of the general iPhone manufacturing season — which typically begins within the first few weeks of July.

I guess we’ll just have to see what the iPhone 7 ultimately brings to the table, but regardless, until then, we think the rumor mill will just keep on churning as it has been.
