The iPad Pro has been out for a few weeks now, however there are still plenty of people interested in seeing what all the fuss is about and possibly buying the new iPad for themselves.

Apple, however, is not the only company to release a new tablet aimed at replacing the laptop. Google has also made news headlines with its new Pixel C tablet. But just how do the two devices stack up against each other? We put them head to head to find out.

iPad ProDesign

Apple is, of course, the design king, and the iPad Pro is no different. It’s also no different than other iPads. In fact, it’s basically an oversized iPad Air in terms of design. This isn’t, however, necessarily a bad thing. The iPad Pro is sleek and stylish, and offers a Lightning port for charging and data transfer, as well as a headphone jack and a smart connector to connect to and charge the Smart Keyboard.

The Google Pixel C certainly has a nice design, but it’s a lot less sleek. It’s also a lot less simplistic than the iPad Pro. It offers a USB-C port for charging, data transfer, and connection to accessories. Like the iPad Pro, it also offers a special connector for use with the device’s keyboard.

When it comes to size, the iPad Pro is quite a bit bigger than the Pixel C, coming in at 12.9 inches, compared to the 10.2 inches that is the Pixel C.

Display

image2As mentioned, the iPad Pro comes with a display of 12.9 inches, with the resolution of the device sitting at 2732 x 2048, or 264 pixels per inch. When it comes to the Pixel C, the resolution is 2560 x 1800, or 308 pixels per inch.

Basically, the Pixel C’s display is sharper, while the iPad Pro’s is larger. It’s important to note that the average person is going to have a hard time distinguishing the difference in sharpness between these two devices, but an extra two inches in size is noticeable, especially for people like artists, which the iPad Pro is targeted at.

Processor, Storage and RAM

It’s a little difficult to compare the iPad Pro and the Pixel C considering the fact that Apple makes its own processors and the Pixel C uses an NVidia chip. What we can see, however, is that both of the two devices excel in the benchmarks, and both will offer superior performance.

Storage and RAM, however is easy to compare. The Pixel C offers 3GB of RAM, while the iPad Pro takes things a step further, offering 4GB. When it comes to storage, the Pixel C offers either 32GB of 64GB, while the iPad Pro again takes things a step further, offering 32GB or 128GB.

Software

I’m not going to go into the whole iOS vs Android debate here – that’s for another time and another article (or 10). I will, however, note the following. Both the iPad Pro and the Google Pixel C offer mobile operating systems, meaning that while the two device can be used as laptop replacements, they are both rather limited in exactly how they can do that. They both are able to install mobile apps, and they both really should have been outfitted with a desktop operating system.

Accessories

While both the Pixel C and the iPad Pro have a special-made keyboard that can be purchased for use with them, they do not both have a stylus. The iPad Pro is the only device with a stylus, the Apple Pencil, highlighting its target market – artists.

The Smart Keyboard with the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil have both been well-reviewed, however the keyboard that can be bought for the Pixel C has not been released, or reviewed, yet.

Conclusions

While the iPad Pro may be the better device, but for the price, that’s not necessarily true. The iPad Pro is a formidable opponent for people like artists, who will enjoy the larger display and the use of advanced Apple Pencil. However those using the device for things like emails, document typing, and so on, could probably stand to save an extra $300.

The iPad Pro starts at $799, while the Google Pixel C starts at $499.
